Which Hungary vignette to choose?
Last checked: 2 November 2026
The right vignette depends on how many days and on which route you use the toll roads. In short: the 1-day vignette for one day, the 10-day vignette from two days, the monthly vignette for a longer stay and the annual vignette for regular use; if you only drive in one county, the county vignette is much cheaper.
Short trips
- 1-day vignette: for a transit within a single day, for example from Austria to Romania.
- 10-day vignette: in category D1 it costs only 1 350 Ft more than the 1-day vignette, so it already pays off with two days on the motorway. A typical choice for a weekend or a longer holiday.
- Monthly vignette: for a stay of more than two to three weeks.
For the whole year
- Annual national vignette: for the entire toll network, until 31 January of the following year.
- Annual county vignette: for the toll sections of one county (and beyond the county border up to the first junction). For several counties you can buy several county vignettes; for some counties this is still cheaper than the national vignette.
- B-A-Z county vignette (discounted): the discounted annual vignette for Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county.
- M1 regional vignette: for the toll network of the four counties along the M1 (Pest, Fejér, Komárom-Esztergom, Győr-Moson-Sopron).
The fees are listed in the article Prices.
Examples
- Transit from Vienna to Oradea in one day: 1-day national vignette.
- A one-week holiday at Lake Balaton, travelling there and back by motorway: 10-day vignette.
- Daily commuting around Budapest: annual county vignette for Pest county.
Frequently asked questions
Is a separate vignette needed for Budapest?
No. Around Budapest the county vignette for Pest is also valid, and the national vignette is valid everywhere.
